- ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says the party has resolved to declare the country’s energy crisis a National State of Disaster. He was speaking at the end of the governing party’s NEC Lekgotla at Esselen Park in Ekurhuleni last night.
- Eskom says it needs over 50 thousand megawatts of additional generation capacity to power the country. On Sunday, the power utility said the current breakdowns at its power stations amounted to over 17-thousand megawatts of generating capacity. Eskom has put the country on stage four rolling blackouts until further notice. The power utility has been battling to keep the lights on and this has resulted in ongoing rolling blackouts. Eskom has again requested members of the public to assist by using electricity sparingly.
- Police Minister Bheki Cele says they are making progress in their investigation into the fatal shooting of eight people in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape over the weekend. Three people who were wounded in the attack are fighting for their lives in the hospital. Preliminary investigations have revealed that two unknown men entered the yard of a house in KwaZakhele and started shooting at guests who were celebrating a birthday. The metro says it will make every resource available to those investigating this case.
