- Police have launched a manhunt for two men suspected of fatally shooting seven people in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape. Police spokesperson, Priscilla Naidu, says four people were also wounded in the attack which happened yesterday.
- Judge Piet Koen is expected to announce his decision in the Pietermaritzburg High court today on whether he’s recusing himself from former president Jacob Zuma’s arms deal-related corruption trial. Koen adjourned the trial last October and asked the state and the defence to make written submissions on whether he should recuse himself.
This development came as Zuma, in a letter to Koen, objected to having Advocate Billy Downer leading the prosecution. Downer is facing a criminal charge in the private prosecution, which was instituted by Zuma. - The newly-elected Joburg mayor, Thapelo Amad, will be sworn in today.
He is also expected to announce the new members of mayoral committees.
Amad was voted mayor on Friday after the assistance of the ANC, EFF and other minority parties who voted together in the council. He received 138 votes.
