  • Energy security will be one of the priorities that Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, will touch on, as he delivers his first State of the Province Address to millions of the province’s citizens today.
  • Eskom says because of the high number of generation unit breakdowns, there is a possibility of further changes on the loadshedding stages at short notice. Eskom has been implementing Stage six loadshedding since last night and the power utility says this will continue until further notice.
  • Residents in Gqeberha say they live in fear of being gunned down and say they’ve had enough. Yesterday, religious leaders, community members and the police gathered at Bethelsdorp, to draft strategies to bring those who commit crime to book. The latest quarterly crime statistics for October to December 2022, also showed an alarming level of violent crimes. They believe the prayer service they held will make a massive difference.
  • South Africa’s Former President Thabo Mbeki has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria. He is leading the Commonwealth Observer Mission to Nigeria, which will be holding Africa’s largest democratic exercise when it holds general elections. The current president Mahamadu Buhari’s second term in office will expire after election. The elections comes at the time where the country is facing the economic challenges due to the COVID19 and the war in Ukraine.
