  • The ANC says it expects a pro-poor budget from Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana. The minister is set to deliver his annual budget in Parliament tomorrow. He will have the unenviable task of balancing rising spending pressures amid lower economic growth, made worse by the intense loadshedding. It’s expected the budget deficit will widen as expenditure pressures rise and less revenue is collected.
  • Armed Forces Day will be commemorated today with President Cyril Ramaphosa in KwaZulu-Natal. For the past few weeks, Richards Bay has been busy in the run-up to today’s event. The SANDF held demonstrations that included mock attacks, bridge building, precision parachute jumps and a night firing exercise on Richards Bay’s Alkantstrand. Apart from these demonstrations of SANDF capabilities, members of the South African Health Services also delivered basic healthcare services to communities in the district.
